First Merchants users should start with the bank’s own login area, choose the correct account type, and only then use recovery or support. This guide is independent and is not operated by First Merchants Bank. For banking actions, use First Merchants’ website, mobile app, or listed support channels.

The First Merchants login selector includes Personal Online Banking, Business Online Banking, Personal Credit Card, Business Credit Card, Private Wealth Online Portal, Retirement Services, Remote Deposit Capture, Lockbox Services, Merchant Services, and DMI Mortgage Payments. The bank also shows separate Login ID fields for personal and business desktop access.

What First Merchants is

First Merchants usually refers to First Merchants Bank, a U.S. banking institution with personal, business, commercial, wealth, and digital banking services. The bank’s own site identifies deposit accounts and loan products as offered by First Merchants Bank, Member FDIC and Equal Housing Lender.

For a login searcher, the useful definition is narrower: First Merchants is the bank behind several different online access routes. A checking account, business banking profile, credit card, private wealth portal, merchant services access, and mortgage payment portal may not send you to the same screen.

Tiny detail. Real consequence.

Start with the login selector

First Merchants’ login area asks users to select an account type before logging in. It also displays “Enter Login ID” for Personal Desktop Version and Business Desktop Version, plus “Remember Me,” “Trouble Logging In?,” “Forgot Login ID?,” “Help,” and “Enroll Now” links.

The mistake is treating every failed attempt as a password problem. A user who needs Business Online Banking but leaves the selector on Personal Online Banking can chase the wrong recovery route. Someone trying to reach Remote Deposit Capture, Lockbox Services, Merchant Services, or DMI Mortgage Payments may need the dropdown to pass them to a different sign-in page before any credential step matters.

Do the selector first. Skip password resets until the selected account type matches the product you actually use.

This is also why generic “First Merchants login” pages are often weak. They may tell readers where to click, but they do not explain why a single login box contains multiple destinations. In banking support, that is often the difference between a two-minute fix and a locked profile.

If you forgot your User ID or password

First Merchants says users who forgot a User ID or password should use the link at the bottom of the login box: “Account Recovery” on the app, or “Forgot Login ID” on Personal Online Banking at FirstMerchants.com. The bank says that path can retrieve the username, unlock the account, and change the password.

The wording can confuse people because “Forgot Login ID” sounds like it only handles a username. First Merchants’ own FAQ describes it as broader than that. It can also be part of unlocking access and changing the password.

Use the bank’s recovery link before you call, unless the page itself looks suspicious or the contact details shown on the page do not match what First Merchants lists publicly. Do not send passwords, one-time codes, full card details, Social Security numbers, or account screenshots through email, web comments, or chat.

If the app or online banking says you are locked out

First Merchants says too many incorrect password attempts can temporarily restrict access. Its app lockout FAQ says users can click “Log In Help,” then “Unlock User,” from the login screen on the app or online banking and follow the steps. Another lockout FAQ describes “Account Recovery,” then “Unlock User,” which means the label can vary by context.

For online banking login help, First Merchants says consumer customers can unlock access using the “Unlock User” feature. Business clients, or customers who still need assistance, are directed to Customer Service at 1.800.205.3464.

Stop guessing when a lockout starts. Repeating the same password is not a troubleshooting step; it is how a small credential issue becomes an access restriction. Verify the account type, use the official unlock route, then contact First Merchants if the account still will not open.

If the phone number for authentication looks wrong

First Merchants says users may only choose a phone number the bank already has on file during authentication. If the phone numbers shown are not recognized, the bank says the Login ID may have been entered incorrectly, or Customer Service may need to update the customer’s contact information.

That is a specific clue. It does not automatically mean the app is broken. It may mean the wrong Login ID was entered, the wrong account type was selected, or an old phone number is still attached to the profile.

Treat this as a records issue first. Skip browser tinkering until you know the Login ID and contact information are correct.

Business Online Banking has its own path

First Merchants says business users should start at FirstMerchants.com and select Business Online Banking from the dropdown menu in the login box. On mobile, business users will see mobile login options as well.

Business Online Banking also has support and self-help tools that do not always mirror consumer banking. First Merchants says business users can use the “How do I…,” “Terms,” or “FAQs” links at the bottom of each page, or call Treasury Solutions at 1.866.833.0050 for assistance.

Use business support for business access. A personal banking reset path may not solve problems tied to Treasury Solutions, Remote Deposit Capture, Lockbox Services, user entitlements, or commercial account administration.

If the First Merchants mobile app is not working

First Merchants tells users with app trouble to make sure they are using the new FMB Banking app for Apple or Android. If help is still needed, the bank directs users to Customer Service at 1.800.205.3464.

The Apple App Store listing for the First Merchants Mobile App says the app can show balances, make transfers, pay bills, deposit checks, make person-to-person payments, and find locations. App-store pages help identify the app’s general features, but recovery and account-status instructions should come from First Merchants’ own help pages.

Do app basics in order: confirm the app name, update it, check device support, then use the visible recovery or login help link. Reinstalling may fix a corrupted app install, but it will not correct an old authentication phone number or a business user in the wrong login lane.

Browser and device support to check

First Merchants says approved operating systems and browsers meet its online banking security and application requirements. Its browser page lists Google Chrome current and previous two major versions as recommended on Windows and MacOS. Firefox is supported on Windows and MacOS, Microsoft Edge is supported on Windows and unsupported on MacOS, and Safari is unsupported on Windows but supported on MacOS.

For mobile banking, First Merchants lists Android 13.x and later as supported, Android 12.x as limited support, iOS 16.x and later as supported, iOS 15.x as limited support, WatchOS 9.x and later as supported, and WatchOS 8.x as limited support.

This matters when the page loads oddly, buttons do nothing, or an authentication field does not appear. A password reset will not fix an unsupported browser. Test with a supported mainstream browser before changing more settings.

Use Chrome first on desktop, especially when you are trying to separate a browser problem from a credential problem.

When to contact First Merchants

First Merchants lists Customer Service at 1.800.205.3464, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Treasury Solutions Customer Service is listed at 1.866.833.0050, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and Telephone Banking is listed at 1.800.473.5055 as available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The contact page also lists Lost or Stolen Debit Card support at 1.800.205.3464 and Lost or Stolen Credit Card support at 1.800.558.3424. Private Wealth Advisors Customer Service is listed separately at 1.866.238.0082 or 765.747.1300.

Call the channel that matches the product. Personal online banking, business treasury tools, debit cards, credit cards, and private wealth access are not the same support queue.

Safety checks before entering banking information

First Merchants’ site includes an external-link notice warning that leaving FirstMerchants.com may take users to a website where privacy and security policies differ, and that First Merchants is not responsible for products, services, content, privacy policy, or security policy on third-party websites.

That warning fits login behavior well. A third-party article can explain where to go, but it should never become the place where a banking customer enters credentials. If the page is not clearly First Merchants’ own website, app, or a portal reached through its login selector, stop before entering banking information.

Use the bank’s page, choose the account type, and keep recovery inside the official flow.
